Battery contacts in small quantities and large quantities
When manufacturing battery contacts, Gutekunst always uses the method that makes the most sense from a production and economic point of view. How a battery contact is made depends on the batch size and complexity of the component. For large quantities, automatic punching and bending machines and freely programmable bending punches are used. Gutekunst manufactures prototypes and complex battery contacts in small quantities in a two-stage process by laser cutting and forming. In the first step, the basic dimensions of the workpiece are laser cut from the sheet metal. In the second step, semi-automatic or fully automatic press brakes set the exact bending radii and angles. This enables Gutekunst to produce even small batches and complex battery contacts inexpensively, efficiently and precisely.

Copper beryllium (CuBe) battery contacts
Copper beryllium (CuBe) has proven itself as a material for battery contacts. This alloy is not only high-strength and has excellent spring properties – it is also self-cleaning, resistant to air, ozone, solvents as well as ultraviolet light and even withstands nuclear radiation. CuBe is also thermally and electrically conductive.
Battery contacts from other spring steel sheets
Depending on the component requirements, numerous other spring steel sheets can be considered as materials in addition to copper-beryllium. Battery contacts can be made, for example, from spring steel (EN 10270-1), stainless steel (1.4310, 1.4571 and 1.4568), aluminum (Al, AlMg3 and S235JR), non-ferrous metal alloys (bronze (CuSn), brass (CuZn)) and numerous special alloys.
To ensure that the components can be processed easily and to improve contact, Gutekunst can coat the surfaces of the components with zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni) silver (Ag) or gold (Au). The component can also be passivated for corrosion protection. Each coating brings a specific set of properties. Resistance to most acids and good surface protection can be achieved with a gold coating, for example. If the component is to be welded or soldered well and with process reliability, a coating with gold or zinc is an option.
